Michigan Air Provides Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Design for 8-Story Graduate Facility

The first of its kind residential facility for Graduate students on campus was created to provide a life enriching environment for its trans-disciplinary residents, while employing state-of-the-art technologies and methods of energy efficiency and sustainability. The 8-story facility, providing apartment style living for 634 graduate students, fellows and visiting faculty, was designed to maximize opportunities for personal connection and foster a sense of belonging. Each interior room is equipped with a custom Price model ACBH active chilled beam with a horizontal discharge, piping package with manual balance valves and modulating heating and cooling temperature control valves. Michigan Air Products worked in concert with the design engineers and the university in order to assure that all design features and associated performance would meet the design intent. This collaboration was critical for the overall success of the project. The chilled beams allow for individual occupant comfort, temperature uniformity, very quiet operation and low energy consumption.

Michigan Air Products provides Price Active Chilled Beams to help the University of Michigan attain LEED Gold Certification and exceed ASHRAE Std 90.1-2007 by 30%.
